Greeted by a giant pear on my way to work Friday, I learned that FreshDirect has made it to my part of Brooklyn, and I couldn't be happier. And the $50 off first order helped. Finally can I return somewhat to the days of Kozmo's and Urbanfetch, where goodies were just hours away from being delivered to your door.
Not being anywhere near Fairway or H&H, I could care less about whether FreshDirect was really created by a co-creator of Fairway. What I do care about is freshness of the food, and cost. The nearest thing to me is Keyfood, while their grocieres are okay, their produce is awful, and their chicken at nearly $10 a pound is ridiculous. I just recieved my first order from them, and I can't say how enjoyable it is to not have to lug groceries up the hills of the slope. The Apple stems were still perfect and not dry, and the color was uniformed with no brusing. The chicken, and steaks were beutifully cut. We'll have to see how the steak fairs tonight, but if it tastes as good as it looks, I'll be sold, well until they go belly up like other ventures of this nature. But in the mean time, I wont be able to get my video delevered at 1am, but at least I can get my Ben & Jerry's.

A FreshDirect truck HIT MY PARKED CAR on November 1st in Park Slope. An eye-witness saw it and left a note. (Their truck did not leave a note, ie. hit and run). I thought for sure they would do the right thing - afterall, not only did they hit my car, but they broke the law by leaving the scene, and, afterall, they're the "good guys," right, they deliver fresh foods... I was directed to the head of transportation, Bill Connelly. It took him 4 days to get back to me. He acted like they would be totally accomodating, but kept dragging his heels. FOUR WEEKS LATER, their insurance company tells me that FreshDirect truck drivers are denying they hit my car and denies my claim. I called the VP of transportation, John McTigue, who told me he would meet with his people and PROMISED to call me back by 5pm next day. No call. I left several messages for him - no call back. I have started a campaign, letting FreshDirect know about how we, as consumers (customers and potential customers) and community members feel about this type of business practice and that civic irresponsibility will not go unseen. I urge anyone reading this to PLEASE FAX to Mr. McTigue and Mr Connelly your response to their unconscionable behavior: FAX 718-928-1050. And to forward this to anyone you know who might be interested in helping my lone voice (AND THE $1800 IN DAMAGES) communicate to them that this is not acceptable. Any leads, info, articles, names of people I can contact are welcomed (Rgdancer1@aol.com).

wow, thats a terrible thing to have happened. I always fear that sort of thing when I park a car on the street. i've started to ween off the freshdirect idea as the deals don't seem worth it as much when you have to pay on top delivery costs, the local sales beat them out. why wouldn't your own insurance cover this? not that it should, because you would have to pay deductible, but worse case option...
